AUTHOR: Heather Wright-Porto TITLE: Sunshine Garden - Scrapbook In a Day(Page 1) DATE: 6/25/2009 12:35:00 PM ----- BODY:
I really love this page and the particular designer series paper used (a 6x6 square of the one of the 12x12 sheets that come in the kit).

NOTE: The "hi" are two stickers that come with the kit and I had adhered them to the outside of the protective sleeve/cover!

The actual page consists of the following items from Sunshine Garden Simply Scrappin' Kit as well as other Stampin' Up! product to accent the page and kit:
  1. 6x6 piece of designer series paper.
  2. 3x3-1/2 piece of textured yellow paper, adhered to page using SNAIL adhesive.
  3. A sticker in the upper-right corner ("happy").
  4. Pierce one of the yellow flower stickers with the 1/16" Circle Handheld Punch. Then place a light blue rhinestone brad (Ice Collection, Circle), and a Filigree designer brad.
  5. Adhere the completed flower to the page using Stampin' Dimensionals.

More pages to come soon!

I also used rub-ons from the retired Love & Happiness rub-on set, as well as a large silk flower from the Pretties Kit, a piece of a light blue sticker from the Simply Scrappin' Kit, as well as a Clear Rhinestone Brad. Lastly, the large flower was adhered to the linen album using a Pop-Up Glue Dot.

Before Father's Day comes and goes, I wanted to share a few samples that I've created. Unfortunately they all use some of my favorite "retired" stamp sets and cardstock, but I thought you'd enjoy them anyway. My father's a fisherman so I really think he's going to love this first card! My upline shared the idea with me.

Sue McMillen ----- -------- AUTHOR: Heather Wright-Porto TITLE: Thank You x 2 (A Little Embellished) DATE: 6/12/2009 02:40:00 PM ----- BODY:

I had purchased the Thank You x 2 card kit from Stampin' Up! to be able to make cute, fast, easy, but pretty Thank You cards. I like this kit so much that I think I need to order more! The kit comes with the pre-scored, pre-scalloped cards, an Old Olive stamping spot, the stamp set, Old Olive grosgrain ribbon, and Old Olive envelopes.

The card fronts are already done! Yes, the cirlces, the embossed dots, and swirls are already there (Chocolate Chip)! How cool is that!

What I added and did a little differently to add a little something more....
Vertical Layout
  1. In one sample, I added a 1-1/2 inch x 5 inch piece of Kraft patterned paper from the Parisian Breeze designer series paper (DSP) pack. I made the card in a vertical layout, used the retired 1/8" Circle Handheld Punch to punch wholes in all the scallops, and then added the strip of DSP to the right side of the inside of the card.
  2. Stamped the little dots in Old Olive and the small flower in Old Olive in desired areas of the card front.
  3. Stamped greeting in the upper left corner.

Horizontal, Landscape Layout

  1. On the other, horizontal layout sample, I added a 3/4 inch x 5 inch strip to the inside of the card right above where I stamped the greeting.
  2. Only stamped the greeting in the bottom, right, and then the small green flowers every other scallop.
I'd love to see your creations! Buy this set!

----- -------- AUTHOR: Heather Wright-Porto TITLE: Pocket Card - Technique Class DATE: 5/26/2009 06:21:00 PM ----- BODY:

During my last technique class we had prepared a few Mother's Day related projects, one of them being this Happy Mother's Day pocket card.

I used a technique from Split Coast Stampers (Trifold Pocket Card):
http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/resources/tutorials/trifold_pocket_card/

Here is the individual pieces before assembled.

Products Used:

What I did:
http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/resources/tutorials/trifold_pocket_card/

  1. Cut an 8 x 8-1/2 piece of designer series paper.
  2. Scored it at 2-1/4 and 6-1/4.
  3. Turn 90 degrees and then score at 2-1/2. See pieces pictured above.
  4. Cut out the 2 bottom squares.
  5. I used a round bowl to manually trace and cut the rounded edge at the top.
  6. NOTE: Used the same round bowl to manually cut/curve the Whisper White and Chocolate Chip pieced used for the inside (for the greeting).
  7. I then stamped some Baroque Swirls on the Whisper White, then adhered to the Chocolate Chip paper.
  8. Then for the stip, I cut a 2-1/2 inch of Chocolate Chip cardstock, then a 2-1/4 inch piece of designer series paper and adhered to the Chocolate Chip. Wrapped about and trimmed.
  9. Then wrap and cut/adhere the Chocolate Chip Double Stitched ribbon.
  10. Then dyed the flower with the re-inkers and set aside to dry. Use a napkin to dry it faster.
  11. Then use a flower brad thru both flowers (one dyed flower, one large silk flower).
  12. Then adhere the flower to the ban using a Pop-up Glue Dot.
  13. Fold the pocket card at the score marks and assemble all the pieces.

Happy Stamping!

----- COMMENT: AUTHOR:Anonymous Sue DATE:6/04/2009 10:04:00 PM Hi Heather, this looks gorgeous and I love the colours. TFS and thank for all your help on my blog, much appreciated! ----- -------- AUTHOR: Heather Wright-Porto TITLE: Parisian Breeze - Card #3 (April Class Kit) DATE: 5/23/2009 10:55:00 PM ----- BODY:

This card was recently posted during a blog tour (see previous post) however, this post contains the instructions on how to make the card in more details as it is part of my April Class Kit featuring the Parisian Breeze Designer Series Paper and items from the Pretties Kit. It also features Chocolate Chip Wide Satin Ribbon.
As part of the Kit, all the paper is already pre-cut and pre-scored for you! All you have to do is stamp and assemble. Ribbon and clear rhinestone brads are all included in the Kit. The Tearing tool is not.
  1. On the polka dotted designer series paper, punch three holes in the lower right area and then place the 3 clear rhinestone brads.
  2. Adhere this paper to the bottom of the card front.
  3. Stamp images with Chocolate Chip Craft Ink on the other piece of paper using the large swirl and small flower of the Baroque Motifs set.
  4. Let dry.
  5. Tear a corner off the right, lower corner of the other piece of designer series paper (see image above).
  6. Then wrap a piece of ribbon around the middle of that piece and adhere in the back.
  7. Punch a few more holes where you will place 3 more clear rhinestone brads.
  8. Then adhere this panel to the card front.
  9. A piece of Very Vanilla piece of paper is included with the kit and is adhered to the inside so you can easily write or stamp a greeting.
  10. You're done!

----- -------- AUTHOR: Heather Wright-Porto TITLE: Th Blog Tour is Over but Projects Remain....Hope You Had Fun! DATE: 5/14/2009 09:00:00 PM ----- BODY:
Although this past blog tour (May 15th and 16th) is now over, here are the projects that were featured!

Featuring Baroque Motifs Stamp Set

While visiting my stop on the tour you will notice the following samples and projects feature the beautiful Baroque Motifs stampet, as well as the Parisian Breeze Designer Series Paper and the Pretties Kit (all from Stampin' Up!).

This next card is actually Card #3 from the April Class Kit. Instructions and more detail to be posted soon now that the blog tour has finished!

This card can be used for any occasion! It contains small, clear rhinestone brads from the Pretties Kit (or you can now purchase Clear Rhinestone Brads as well and separate from the Pretties Kit), two patterns from the Parisian Breeze Designer Series Paper, Brushed Gold cardstock, the Baroque Motifs stamp set and the use of Chocolate Chip CRAFT ink.

NOTE: I used Craft ink because the Parisian Breeze Designer Series Paper is think and textured and the Classic ink did not show up or stamp well on this paper. The Craft ink worked well - but allow more time to dry!

You may also use the 1/16" Circle Handheld punch or a piercing tool (from the Crafter's Toolkit) to pierce the holes for the rhinestone brads. Lastly the Tearing Tool was used to tear the paper on a slant, however many people can tear by hand beautifully.

This next project is a Father's Day project. It contains many layered background stamps in Chocolate Chip Classic Ink and Blue Bayou Classic Ink (can use Taken with Teal or Baja Breeze or other desired inks). But most importantly it features the Baroque Motifs small flower and swirls in Chocolate Chip CRAFT ink.

NOTE: Again, Craft Ink was used since it would appear darker and more clear on the wooden frame. You can noticeably see the difference between the two browns used - Chocolate Chip Classic Ink and Chocolate Chip Craft Ink.

In the upper, right corner I also used rub-ons (Chateau Bella) as the greeting, however you could also stamp a greeting (recommended in Chocolate Chip Craft Ink).

This cute wooden basket is decorated with Parisian Breeze Designer Series Paper, ribbons, a silk flower and clear rhinestone brad from the Pretties Kit. I stamped the small flowers from Baroque Motifs using Chocolate Chip Classic ink and Blue Bayou Classic Ink, and using the Rock-n-Roll technique. The large swirls were stamped in Chocolate Chip Craft Ink.

The medium flower is stamped in Chocolate Chip Craft Ink on a blue patterned piece of paper from the Parisian Breeze Designer Series Paper pack, and then punched out using the Scallop Circle punch.

The tissue paper is also stamped!!!

This small, 3x3 card is cute and simple. I stamped the swirl and "kind" in Chocolate Chip Craft Ink on top of a floral pattern piece of paper from Parisian Breeze. Then I used a Clear Rhinestone brad and felt flowers from Flower Fusion Too and adhered them to the card front using a Pop-Up Glue Dot.

This card is part of my April Class Kit featuring the Parisian Breeze Designer Series Paper and items from the Pretties Kit. I used a baby stamp from a retired set "Buggies and Booties" but you can really use any stamp. This card also features the Tearing Tool (not part of the kit).

As part of the Kit, all the paper is already pre-cut and pre-scored for you! All you have to do is stamp and assemble. Ribbon and pearl are also included in the Kit.

This card can be done in one of two ways.

OPTION #1

If I sent you a piece of Whisper White cardstock or if you have Whisper White cardstock at home and want your card to "stand" on it's own (I'm using a stand in the picture above), then follow the instructions below.
  1. Adhere the blue/white patterned paper to the Whisper White card front.
  2. You can adhere the 3 white pearls now or later using Mini Glue Dots.
  3. Tear the Sahara Sand piece of paper, then adhere on top of card front.
  4. Tear the large floral patterned piece of paper, then wrap a piece of ribbon around the piece and adhere behind. Then adhere this piece to the card front leaving some of the torn Sahara Sand piece showing.
  5. Then stamp an image in Chocolate Chip Classic Ink on the Whisper White square piece, then layer on the Sahara Sand piece, then adhere and layer on the Baja Breeze piece. Set aside -- this will be the last thing to adhere.
  6. Adhere the triangle in the upper left corner.
  7. From the paper torn from the large floral patterned piece of paper, now tear a small, thinner piece and adhere to the triangle. Then manually snip the edges on a slant once adhered.
  8. Now adhere the stamped image (and layered panel) to the card front.
  9. Last but not least you can either stamp a greeting on the ribbon or use a rub-on as I did above.
  10. You're done.
OPTION #2

This is the original card design that will NOT stand on it's own.
  1. Same as above except there is no Whisper White card. Instead Sahara Sand makes up the main card and is torn at the bottom, front of the card only (that is why the card cannot stand on its own).
  2. Then adhere the small blue/white patterned piece to the bottom of the inside of the card front. Adhere pearls with Mini Glue Dots.
  3. Follow steps 4-9 above.
  4. You're done.

This card is part of my April Class Kit featuring the Parisian Breeze Designer Series Paper and items from the Pretties Kit. It also features the designer label silver hodgepodge hardware, bashful blue taffeta ribbon and the Scallop Edge punch.
As part of the Kit, all the paper is already pre-cut and pre-scored for you! All you have to do is stamp and assemble. Punched flower, silk flower, silver hodgepodge hardware, ribbon and pearl are all included in the Kit.

This card has a lot of pieces but not hard to assemble. It's just a lot of little layers and has minimal stamping. You don't even have to have the stamping if you do not desire it. You can instead tie a knot with the ribbon or use Rub-ons instead.

  1. This card is the standard card size, horizontal layout, scored at the top.
  2. Adhere the Sahara Sand small piece of paper onto the floral pattern piece.
  3. Then use the Scallop Edge punch on the blue/white polka dotted piece of cardstock and adhere all the 3 pieces together.
  4. Set aside for now.
  5. Continue by wrapping a piece of Bashful Blue Taffeta Ribbon around the horizontal kraft/white pattern piece of paper.
  6. Stamp your greeting on scrap Whisper White. Line up under the label and trace or be prepared to trip/cut later -- or you can always purchase the Designer Label punch from Stampin' Up!
  7. Place the greeting where you want it over the ribbon/horizontal piece, then use the 1/16" Circle Handheld punch to punch a hole on either side of the label and adhere it using Silver brads.
  8. Now you are ready to adhere the horizontal piece to the polka dotted, previously assembled panel.
  9. Adhere all to the card front.
  10. Lastly adhere the small pearl to the punched out flower using a Mini Glue Dot.
  11. Adhere to the large silk flower, again with a Mini Glue Dot.
  12. Then adhere the large silk flower to the card front using a Pop Up Glue Dot.
  13. You're done.

As part of the Kit, all the paper is already pre-cut and pre-scored for you! All you have to do is stamp and assemble. Punched flowers, silk flower, and rhinestone brad is also include in the Kit.

  3. When the Craft Ink is dried, adhere the diagonal in the upper left corner, leaving a small 1/8" edge (I used SNAIL adhesive).
  4. Punch a hole in the small flower punched using Boho Blossom punch, as well as the larger flower punched.
  5. Then using a Clear Rhinestone Brad, place through the middle of the 2 punched flowers, and then through the middle of the large silk flower.

The Trifold Card

This card was part of my last Technique Class and can be used for any occasion (I used it for Easter). The Parisian Breeze Designer Series Paper is just plain beautiful and versatile.

The technique is called a Trifold Card and I found it on Split Coast Stampers. You can find instructions here:

This box was created to coordinate with the Trifold Card and ca be used for many things - to hold greeting cards, chocolates, or other treats or small gifts.

This box is really easy to create and you do NOT need a lot of accessories or stamping or hardwork to make it look beautiful.

Here, the following Stampin' Up! products were used:

Easter Candy Treat Box for my Daughter

She LOVES Hershey's Kisses and this was the perfect little box for her to fill with just enough chocolate to keep her smiling!

I saw a similar card idea on a fellow demonstrator's website (can't remember who -sorry) with using green paper and then using Paper Snips (scissors) to cut the edges to look like grass. I thought it was perfect for this occasion.

----- -------- AUTHOR: Heather Wright-Porto TITLE: For Those Whole Like Dragonflies! DATE: 3/18/2009 08:09:00 AM ----- BODY:
I am fortunate to be able to sell my cards at a few local gift shops, and there is a customer who has placed a few custom orders and loves dragonfly cards. I have created others in the past but forgot to take a picture of them (lol), but here are the latest two I created for them.

This card is made using the Dragonfly from Bugs & Kisses stamp set, Afternoon Tea Designer Series Paper (retired), Blush Blossom and Very Vanilla cardstock, as well as Chocolate Chip Classic Ink. Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamonds were used on the Dragonfly (adhered to the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals).

This card was created using patterned paper from the Bella Rose Designer Series Paper, the Organic Grace stamp set (retired, Hostess Level 1 set) and is rather simple. I used Gold Embossing to give it a little something, and to compliment the Brushed Gold cardstock used.

If you like dragonflies, there will be more to come in the future since this particular customer orders regularly - wanting specifically cards with dragonflies.

Enjoy!

----- -------- AUTHOR: Heather Wright-Porto TITLE: Pretty in Pink Bella Rose DATE: 3/15/2009 07:37:00 PM ----- BODY:

Recently, I had a custom order come in where the gentleman wanted a 1st birthday card with a pink rose. I automatically thought of the Bella Rose designer series paper and the pink patterned paper made up of roses.

Stampin' Up! Product Used

  1. Pink Pirouette and Whisper White Cardstock

  2. Bella Rose Designer Series Paper

  3. Stampin' Dimensionals.

  4. SNAIL adhesive.

Instructions

  1. In this card, I cut out several roses from the pink patterned roses paper. Set aside.

  2. The square card is a 5x5 card (Whisper White paper).

  3. The pink "xoxo" designer series paper I think comes from a retired pack called Holiday Treasures. But you can easily substitute it with Pink Pirouette Print Patterns Designer Series Paper (may the pink with white polka dots). Adhere to card front.

  4. Adhere a piece of Pink Pirouette card stock on top of that.

  5. Then, on top of that I adhered a piece of white paper where I had printed "Happy 1st Birthday" from my computer. However, you could have stamped a birthday related or other desired greeting!

  6. Lastly, adhere the pink roses (previously cut out) using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Alternatives
  1. Add Dazzling Diamonds glitter to highlights of the roses.
  2. Use Crystal Effects on the hightlights of the roses.
  3. Stamp your own greeting.
  4. Use the sponging technique to make it more vintage looking.
  5. Add another color to compliment the pink being used, such as Chocolate Chip or Kiwi Kiss.

Happy stamping! Thanks for visiting!

----- -------- AUTHOR: Heather Wright-Porto TITLE: Happy Valentine's Day 2009 DATE: 2/14/2009 08:39:00 PM ----- BODY:

This is this year's masculine Valentine's Day card. I didn't hold a workshop this year for Valentine's Day cards, but instead held a technique class where this was a pop-up card we made. I used the template from http://www.raisastamps.com/ for the inside of the card, the pop-up.

In this card, the following Stampin' Up! products were used:

Stamps: Always, Priceless, One of a Kind, Love Matters (retired), and Happy Hearts (retired)

Paper: Chocolate Chip, Whisper White, and Baja Breeze Designer Series Paper (Prints), Vellum

Inks: Whisper White Craft Ink, Sky Blue (retired, but you can use Baja Breeze), Chocolate Chip

Tools/Accessories: Markers (Taken with Teal, Old Olive, Chocolate Chip), Crystal Effects, Chocolate Chip satin ribbon, Paper Piercing Tool (from the Crafter's Toolkit), Scallop Edge Border, Stampin' Dimensionals

This is the inside of the card on Vellum paper.
You can't see the light blue (Sky Blue) hearts I stamped. Baja Breeze would be a better color to use.

Just remember when using the Craft Ink, it is thicker than the Classic Ink and takes longer to dry.

The part of the card that may need some instruction is the heart on the front. I stamped it in Chocolate Chip Classic Ink, then used the Stampin' Write Markers mentioned above to "color" the stamp, then stamped it on scrap Whisper White paper. I then added Crystal Effects to some of the flowers and leaves. Set aside for it to dry. Then cut the heart out and adhere using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Hope you had a wonderful Valentine's Day!

----- -------- AUTHOR: Heather Wright-Porto TITLE: Left Over Holiday Card Samples DATE: 2/04/2009 09:06:00 AM ----- BODY:
I just wanted to share these holiday samples! I really loved them and enjoyed making them, but didn't have time to post about them all individually. However, if you have any questions or need to know how to make them, please feel free to contact me!

This is probably my favorite this year --- the beautiful holiday house seen, with a punched window and scalloped roof! Of course it was probably took the longest time to make (LOL).

I colored the stamp with different inks, then used the Versa Mark pen to highlight certain areas, such as the trim around the door, the tree, and the sled, then added Clear Embossing powder and heated. It darkened, highlighted and glossed those areas. Then I embossed the Lovely as a Tree "tree".

I punched the window with the smaller square punch and made the gray frame for the window using both punches. I also stamped the tree on the inside of the card - to show on the inside of the window!

Lastly, the roof was created with several pieces of paper, punched with the Scallop Edge punch.

This project was for a teen's group. The CD tin was purchased at Specialty Bottle, but all other product is Stampin' Up! - Frosty stampset, Bashful Blue and Chocolate Chip papers, Chocolate Taffeta Ribbon, Felt Flurries, Adhesive, Stampin' Write Markers, Stampin' Dimensionals and Dazzling Diamonds!

I can't remember where I purchased this Santa Face from several years ago, but I use it every year. This gift card holder is from Stampin' Up! - it comes pre-scored and punched to hold the card!

Again the Santa Face was used here with the Lovely As A Tree stampset, and the French Script background stamp. Sponging and embossing were also used!

This chocolate nugget box was for another kids craft class! The loved wrapping each of the cholocates with Stampin' Up!'s designer series paper, and coloring the santa card. I wrapped the bow for them (LOL).

Last but not least...this card is simply but elegant. It is done in all Chocolate Chip Craft Ink and embossed. Glitter was added to many parts of the card as well. The technique "Masking" was also used on the center panel to place the baby right above the swirled bottom of the frame. Just be careful with the Craft Ink when creating this card since so much of it was used - it can bet messy (LOL).
Happy stamping and I hope you enjoyed all the holiday sample left-overs!

Most supplies purchased from Michael's, the candy from CVS, and the heart stamps, paper, circle punches, markers and inks are from Stampin' Up!

Here are a few close-ups! The cup is filled with pink, purple, and silver Hershey's Kisses.

----- -------- AUTHOR: Heather Wright-Porto TITLE: Snow Swirled - Dressed Up Tree and Icycles DATE: 1/04/2009 08:55:00 AM ----- BODY:

This card is a stepped-up version of one my upline created and demonstrated to me. I just loved it and couldn't resist adding some glitter, pearls, and ribbon to the free. A very fancy card that I gave my mom this year.

Here is a close-up look at the tree:

Here is a close-up look at the icycle trim:

Stampin' Up! Product Used:

NOTE: I also created a version using Basic Gray ink and cardstock instead of Old Olive and it looked just as good!

Non-Stampin' Up! Product Used:

Instructions:

Creating the Icycle Trim

  1. Cut a piece of wax paper.
  2. Using Crystal Effects, draw a line of crystal effects on the wax paper (at least 4-1/4).
  3. Then using the tip of the crystal effects bottle, "pull" some of the crystal effects down to create the icycle look.
  4. Then cover with Dazzling Diamonds glitter.
  5. This takes some time to dry!!! I waited over night before adhering to card front (top).

Creating the tree panel

  1. Stamp the Snow Swirled Tree on Whisper White cardstock.
  2. Add glitter where desired using two-way glue pen and Dazzling Diamonds.
  3. Add pearls from the Pretties Kit and adhere using Mini Glue Dots to desired locations on the tree. I used 2 different sizes.
  4. Create a bow from ribbon and adhere to top of tree using Mini Glue Dots.
  5. Twirl the ribbon ends and adhere the bottom with a Mini Glue Dot.
  6. Adhere this panel to card front using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Creating the card front

  1. Stamp Snow Swirled Snowflakes in Baja Breeze.
  2. Clean the stamp.
  3. Now re-stamp over the existing snowflakes with Whisper White Craft Ink. Allow a few minutes to dry.
  4. Using the smaller strips, adhere the Baja Breeze horizontal strip onto the Old Olive horizontal strip.
  5. Wrap silver cord around the strips 3 times.
  6. Adhere strip to card front with SNAIL Adhesive.

When the icycle trim is dried, using SNAIL adhesive along the top, then place the trim on top of it. Or use a few drops of Crystal Effects across the top and then place the trim on top of it.

Happy stampin'

This technique I C.A.S.E.D from fellow demonstrator, Andrea Walford. I loved how she used the Carousel Note for masking!
This card is loaded with different stamps and colors but still a lot of fun to make and I think it is just a beautiful combination of colors! A very different type of card for me...but I love it!

Stampin' Up! Products Used

Techniques Used

Non-SU Product Used

Instructions

  1. First you cover the entire Whisper White cardstock with Sky Blue using the Brayer tool.
  2. Then roll the Brayer tool in Kiwi Kiss and add a little bit of green to the background as well.
  3. Then place the Carousel Note towards the left side of the card where you desire.
  4. Then, use Close to Cocoa on a background stamp, I used French Script. And stamp it on the paper....where the Carousel Note is "masking" a good portion of the card (the background will not appear there).
  5. Then, with the mask still in place, use Close to Cocoa and sponge around the edges of the Carousel Note.
  6. Then I lifted the Carousel Note (no more mask), and stamped Baroque Motif's large swirl in Chocolate Chip ink. Also added a few of the small flowers in the set.
  7. In Kiwi Kiss stamped the horizontal layout of trees from Lovely as a Tree along the bottom of the card front.
  8. Then stamped the large tree in Kiwi Kiss (see image above for placement).
  9. Then again stamped the large tree in Old Olive CRAFT ink. Cover with Clear Embossing Powder and heat.
  10. I then stamped "Christmas" in Chocolate Chip CRAFT ink. Cover with Clear Embossing Powder and heat.
  11. Then, using the small oval punch, punch a scrap piece of Whisper White. Use the brayer tool with Sky Blue and Kiwi Kiss as described above.
  12. Stamp "Merry" in Chocolate Chip CRAFT ink. Cover with Clear Embossing Powder and heat. Then adhere to large oval (punched in Chocolate Chip cardstock/scrap).
  13. Adhere greeting to card front using Stampin' Dimensionals.
  14. Add gold ink to desired locations - I added it to the "Merry" greeting, towards the top corner, towards the bottom left corner as well.
  15. Wrap sheer ribbon around the card front and tie in a knot.
  16. Adhere to card using SNAIL adhesive.
  17. You're done :)

This card is made using the new Happy Blessings stamp set in the Holiday Mini 2008 Catalog. The techniques used are Masking and Watercoloring. Last year I made a similar card using the Autumn Harvest set (which is still active): http://heatherporto.blogspot.com/2007/10/thanksgiving-watercolor-card.html

Paper
Stampin' Up! Accessories
Instructions
  1. Stamp with Chocolate Chip ink on the Close to Cocoa cardstock with the pumpkins/stalks stamp.
  2. Stamp a greeting in Chocolate Chip on the scrap Watercolor Paper.
  3. Stamp two pumpkins in Chocolate Chip on the Watercolor paper. Then stamp two of the same pumpkins on scrap paper and cut them out to use for Masking.
  4. Now put the cut-out pumpkins over the stamped pumpkins - this will protect them from other stamped images.
  5. Now take the stamp with the pumpkins/stalks and stamp across the paper (at least twice) in Chocolate Chip.
  6. Now remove the pieces of scrap. Those pumpkins now appear in "front."
  7. Now you can start "coloring" with ink pads and blender pens using Pumpkin Pie, Really Rust, Kiwi Kiss, Riding Hood Red, and More Mustard.
  8. Then use the YoYo Yellow marker to color the sunflowers.
  9. Adhere the watercolor main paper on the copper, then adhere to the chocolate.
  10. Adhere that panel to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals.
  11. Stamp a sunflower and vine on the greetin as well, and color.

----- -------- AUTHOR: Heather Wright-Porto TITLE: Home for Christmas DATE: 11/04/2008 02:03:00 PM ----- BODY:

We created this card at the last Holiday Card Making workshop. It is cased from one of Amy Celona's holiday cards. I really liked the torn look and wanted to do a card using it and the Home for Christmas stamp set.

What may not be apparent is the use of clear embossing. The large tree is embossed and so are some of the elements in the image (the wreathe around the door, the small tree, the sled, the lantern, and the circle wreathe on the door).

Unlike the Home for Christmas tunnel card (http://heatherporto.blogspot.com/2008/10/home-for-christams-tunnel-card.html) which was watercolored, this card uses Stampin' Write markers to "color" the stamp image. So basically nothing is colored in, everything is outlined with color instead.

What You Need:
  1. Home For Christmas stamp set
  2. Lovely as a Tree stamp set
  3. Noble Deer stamp set (retired)
  4. Kiwi Kiss, Riding Hood Red, and Whisper White card stock.
  5. Tearing tool.
  6. Clear Embossing Powder
  7. Heat Gun
  8. Stampin' Write Markers
  9. Old Olive Classic Ink and Craft Ink
  10. SNAIL adhesive
  11. Stampin' Dimensionals
  12. Versa Mark Pen
How to Make This Card:
  1. Start with the Kiwi Kiss card. On the card front, stamp the small trees from the Noble Deer set in Old Olive. You can substitute by using the horizontal bunch of trees from the Lovely as a Tree set.
  2. Stamp the large tree in Old Olive Craft ink. Cover with clear embossing powder. Shake off excess. Heat with a heat gun.
  3. Use the same technique to stamp and create the greeting on Whisper White scrap paper. Then using the tearing tool, tear each side of the greeting scrap paper. Then adhere to a scrap piece of Riding Hood Red. Then tear all the edgets of the red paper (as shown in the image above) - so you have two layers of torn paper for the greeting. Set aside for now.
  4. Using the desired Stampin' Write Markers, flip over the Home for Christmas main stamp (show above) and then literally color it with different colored markers -- greens for the wreathe and trees, mustard for the sled and lantern, etc.
  5. When you have finished coloring the stamp, stamp on a larger scrap Whisper White piece of paper. Now using the Versa Mark pen, color over some of the image, like the wreathe around the door and small tree, lantern and sled. Then cover with clear embossing powder, shake off excess, and heat. Notice it really brings out the color and shines!
  6. Then use the tearing tool to tear all the edges. Adhere to Riding Hood Red paper and again tear all the sides.
  7. Adhere to the Kiwi Kiss card front.
  8. Adhere the greeting now with Stampin' Dimensionals.

During this past weekend I had a holiday card making class. So the next 5 post to come will be the cards we created during that class. This one is a very easy card which can be used for other occasions as well, especially as a masculine card! This is one of my favorite sets, Lovely as a Tree. It's just so versatile and "lovely." Enjoy!
Stampin' Up! Product Used
Instructions
  1. Cut standard card in Chocolate Chip.
  2. Stamp horizontal trees stamp in Choc. Chip ink on the bottom of the card front.
  3. Cut Very Vanilla as 3.25 x 4.5.
  4. Then cut Close to Cocoa piece 1/8 inch shorter.
  5. Use the Linen stamp in Close to Cocoa to cover the Close to Cocoa piece of paper.
  6. Stamp tree images at the bottom of the Close to Cocoa cardstock, but in Chocolate Chip Classic Ink.
  7. Stamp images of the pine cones in the upper corners, also in Chocolate Chip ink and on the piece of paper for the greeting.
  8. Now, using Chocolate Chip Craft Ink, stamp 2 large pine trees and the greeting. Then cover in Clear Embossing powder and heat. It looks GREAT.
  9. Tie and adhere bow in upper left corner and adhere with Mini Glue Dot.
  10. Adhere and assemble the rest of the card with SNAIL adhesive and then with Stampin' Dimensionals on the greeting only.

This Fresh Cut Notes pocket card was created during my last Technique Class: Special Folds. You've already seen the Shadow Box and the Tunnel Card (last 2, previous posts), and I used the die-cut Notes card to make a pocket. This card is relatively simply and can be made in any color and for any occasion!

Stampin' Up! Products Used

Instructions

  1. Cut a piece of textured Baja Breeze card stock for the back (3-1/2 x 4-1/2).
  2. Then on the right side use the Scallop Edge border punch.
  3. Cut a piece of Baja Breeze Prints Designer Series Paper in a 3x3 square and adhere it to the textured card stock as shown above.
  4. Cut the Fresh Cut Notes card to 3-1/4 x 3-1/4. However, to keep flower centered, you have to trim it equally on both the top and bottom (not just to trim from one side). So, in total you trim the right side (leaving and keeping the fold in the Notes card on the left side), then you trim a little on the top and then the same amount on the bottom until the desired 3-1/4 x 3-1/4 is left.
  5. Now, we're ready to stamp. Notice the diagonal in blue ink. We used masking to protect some of the card from the blue ink. Using a piece of scrap paper, cover 1/2 the card (on a diagonal). Then using the Baja Breeze Classic Ink pad and the background stamp in the Fresh Cut stamp set, stamp on the lower, left area of the Fresh Cut Notes.
  6. I then used the 5-petal flower punch to punch 1 flower in textured Baja Breeze.
  7. Then used Craft White ink and rubbed it around the edges of the flower.
  8. Using the piercing tool from the Crafter's Kit, pierce a hole in the middle of the flower die-cut, and also in the middle of the punched flower.
  9. Place the punched flower behind the die-cut and then place a square blue Rhinestone brad (Ice Collection) thru them both.
  10. Adhere the Notes card to the back of the card (over the prints/patterened paper and textured paper as shown above).
  11. Now, on the inside of the Notes card, adhere tape to the top and bottom borders --- do NOT tape in the middle or the right --- this is forming the pocket.
  12. Then close the Notes card. Now the top and bottom are closed but the pocket (in the middle) is still open.
  13. Now cut a piece of 2-3/4 x 3-3/4 in Whisper White to use as your greeting, the piece that will slide in and out of the pocket. NOTE: Your greeting will be written or stamped on the back of the Whisper White paper so it doesn't show thru the die-cut flower!

----- COMMENT: AUTHOR:Anonymous Corie DATE:10/25/2008 10:09:00 AM WOW -- this is FANTASTIC ----- -------- AUTHOR: Heather Wright-Porto TITLE: A Rose is a Rose Shadow Box Card DATE: 10/08/2008 04:38:00 PM ----- BODY:

I love roses and love the new Bella Rose series of products and especially this new A Rose is a Rose stamp set. Chocolate chip and the new Pink Pirouette is a favorite color combination of mine, and the Kiwi Kiss satin ribbon is the perfect finish.

Stampin' Up! Products Used:

Instructions:
  1. Cut one piece of 5-1/2 x 4-1/4 Chocolate Chip and one of the pink patterned paper from the Bella Rose designer series pack.

  2. On both pieces, score 1/2 inch and then at 1 inch on either side. See this tutorial on how to then fold it and make is pop-out: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/ee/index.php/resources/tutorials/shadow_box_card/

  3. I used the Bella Toile background stamp on the Chocolate Chip card stock with Clear Embossing Powder. For more on heat embossing, visit: http://www.stampinup.com/us/enu/4287.asp

  4. Using my Creative Memories circle cutting system, I cut a whole in the middle of the Chocolate Chip piece of cardstock.

  5. Using the A Rose is a Rose stamp set, I created the inside (Pink Pirouette card stock) using two-step stamping. For more info on 2-step stamping, visit: http://www.stampinup.com/us/enu/4284.asp

  6. First I stamped the rose, solid image in pink although it can hardly be seen.

  7. Then stamped the accent, highlighted image for the rose in red and rock-n-rolled (http://www.stampinup.com/us/enu/4290.asp) it in Chocolate Chip (although you can hardly see it).

  8. I did the same color combination for the smaller roses.

  9. For the leaves, I used Kiwi Kiss and the stamp-off technique (where for the solid image, I stamp it in ink, stamp-off on a scrap piece of paper, then stamp the real card stock leaving a faded image in green. Then the highlighted/accented stamp for leaves was stamped regularly).

  10. To finish the card I taped the sides together and then used the Scallop Edge border punch on each end.

  11. Tie a bow with Kiwi Kiss satin ribbon and adhere with Mini Glue Dot at the bottom of the circle, and add a greeting to the front if desired.

----- COMMENT: AUTHOR:Anonymous Anie DATE:10/09/2008 09:02:00 AM Another beautiful card Heather! I've been resisting the Rose is a Rose set, but I think you have finally cracked my resistance! Have a wonderful day! ----- -------- AUTHOR: Heather Wright-Porto TITLE: Home for Christmas Tunnel Card DATE: 10/05/2008 11:43:00 AM ----- BODY:

I recently received a bunch of sets from the new Holiday Mini catalog. The Home for Christmas is one of the sets and brings warmth in using Riding Hood Red and Chocolate Chip. It is also a great set to make a masculine holiday card. I also used some old Hodgepodge Hardware I had laying around (however, it is now retired).

Stampin' Up! Products Used
  1. Home For Christmas stamp set (Item #111756)
  2. Chocolate Chip Classic Ink (Item #102108)

  3. Watercolor Pencils (Item #101879)

  4. Blender Pens (Item #102845)

  5. Chocolate Chip Taffeta Ribbon (Item# 109065)

  6. 1/16" Circle Handheld Punch (Item #101227)

  7. Small Oval Punch (Item #107304)

  8. Large Oval Punch (Item #107305)

  9. Riding Hood Red paper (Item #111348)

  10. Bella Rose Designer Series Paper (the Chocolate Chip patterned piece) (Item #112041)

  11. Very Vanialla (Item #101650)

  12. Stampin' Dimensionals (Item #104430)

  13. Mini Glue Dots (Item #103683)

  14. SNAIL Adhesive (Item #104332)

  15. Hodgepodge Hardware (retired)

NON-Stampin' Up! tool used: Scor-pal to make the creases in the inside of the card (Tunnel card).

Instructions

  1. Before doing the inside of the card (the Tunnel Card, directions below), make a slice in the side of the fold and feed the ribbon through. Then feed through the hardware and tie a knot towards the right side. (Yes, the ribbon would appear on the inside of the card, although the tunnel inside will hide most of it.)

  2. Stamp the image in Chocolate Chip ink and then color with Watercolor pencils.

  3. I used a blender pen in some areas to soften the look, while in other areas, I did not blend but left the brightness and sketchiness of the watercolor pencil.

  4. To adhere the hodgepodge greeting tag, I first adhered the greeting to the card front ("Christmas"), then laid the hardware over hit and marked the holes with a pencil. I then used the 1/16" circle handheld punch and the piercing tool from the Crafter's Kit. Then you can assemble.

  5. Once the hardware is adhered, layer pieces and adhere to card front using Dimensionals.

  6. To make the "Christmas" greeting, from the greeting stamp that came with Home for Christmas, I took the Chocolate Chip marker and just colored that word. Then stamped it on scrap paper and punch it using the small oval punch. I then punch green designer series paper (Kiwi Kiss Patterened Designer Series Paper, but to save money I would recommend using the green patterned paper from the Bella Rose DSP) with the larger oval punch.

  7. Mini Glue dots were used to hold the buckle in place on the front of the card.

Technique: Tunnel Fold

Here is the inside of the card, called a Tunnel Fold.

You can get online instructions for this fold from Split Coast Stampers:
http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/ee/index.php/resources/tutorials/tunnel_card/#?printable=true

NOTE: To cut the ovals I used Creative Memories' cutting system. However, you can use Stampin' Up!'s Coluzzle system or a die-cuting system (like the new Big Shot)!

This was another one of the cards we did at my last techniques class. It is the Drunken Chalk technique. This picture doesn't really do this card justice but I wanted to post it anyway. The dark gold you see here is really the Gold metallic pen which is very nice when shown in light versus in this picture. We also used Crystal Effects on the "C" in Cherish giving it a nice glossy look, again not really apparent in this sample. Sorry about that. Anyway, we still had fun making this card.

This card is again part of my Birthday Card Kit Class I had offered. These are 2 cards designed for girl. In Typepad,

All this can be done for FREE on Blogger! Including incorporating PayPal buttons, adding custom banners and backgrounds, widgets, 3rd party advertising, and more. Everything you see on this blog is done with Blogger and is FREE.

Don't get me wrong though - there are some great features that Typepad has that Blogger does not have yet. Such as:

For most bloggers, I think Blogger is a wonderful platform and easy to use but most of all it is FREE. I would recommend it for most users, although for some, Typepad will be the better choice if you need certain abilities.

Hello!

I just wanted to share my new blog format with you all -- my blog makeover! Having coordinated blog banners, backgrounds and signatures is one of the latest blogging trends. Since I will soon be developing other people's blogs (hopefully yours if you don't already have one), I just had to have them and install them as soon as possible.

Can you see the new format? You should see my blog banner at the top, left and right background borders (greenish swirls), and a 2 column blog format (left column for posts and the right column is smaller for the side bar (my picture should be the first thing you see)).

If you have any trouble viewing this blog, please let me know so I can fix any problems. Let me know what platform you are using (Windows or Mac) and if you know, what web browser you are using and version, such as Internet Explorer 7.0, or 6.0, or American Online, etc. Your feedback is greatly appreciated!

Instructions

  1. Ink the Fine Lace background stamp in Certainly Celery ink and then take the Whisper White cardstock (card front, 5x5) and only press down each corner of the paper on a different corner of the stamp (basically only inking the corners of the paper with the stamp).

  2. Using the Stampin' Write Markers (Blush Blossom, Certainly Celery and YoYo Yellow) literally flip over the stamp and color on the rubber! Color on the stamp where you want green, yellow, and blush blossom. Or you can use Blush Blossom ink on the stamp first, then flip over and color the green leaves and the yellow flowers with the markers.

  3. When finished coloring, stamp on the 3.25 x 3.5 piece of white cardstock.

  4. Adhere to 3.5 x 3.75 piece of Blush Blossom cardstock.

  5. Adhere that to the card front of the 5x5 card.

  6. Stamp greeting on small piece of cardstock and adhere to mat.

  7. Adhere greeting to card front (Fresh Cut stamped area) using SNAIL Adhesive.

  8. From the One of a Kind Stampset, color the stamp with 3 flowers using the markers as describe previously. Use the Boho Blossoms punch to punch our the 3 flowers and adhere to card using Stampin' Dimensionals.

This masculine card was created to coordinate with the FAMILY Chipboard Album (http://heatherporto.blogspot.com/2008/06/family-chipboard-album-home-again_4178.html) I recently posted, although the Designer Series Paper is not part of that kit, I felt the chocolate chip and "greens" would match the project. Also, I like the card and wanted to share it anyway! This designer series paper (Brocade Backgound) is now retired, but I still love it and luckily I had some left.

----- -------- AUTHOR: Heather Wright-Porto TITLE: Ginger Blossom Journal DATE: 6/30/2008 06:32:00 PM ----- BODY:

I will be doing this journal at an upcoming Teen Craft Program at a local library. It was relatively easy to do, with the hardest part being the dyed flowers from the Pretties Kit. I bought the journals for $1.00 at Michaels and the Stampin' Up! (SU) Spiral Punch works perfectly with them! Yeah! I would have purchased our SU Chipboard journals however that would have made the workshop too expensive and I really wanted to continue doing the programs there, so I had to purchase an alternative this time around. I have done/made other SU journals and love them!

Stamps
Inks
Paper
Stampin' Up! Accessories
Non-Stampin' Up! Accessories
Instructions: Cutting and Punching Paper
  1. Cut 4 pieces of 4 15/16" x 7" designer series paper (Ginger Blossom). I used the striped Ruby Red for the front, and the Dotted Ruby Red for the back, and then the large flowers for the inner covers.
  2. On the front cover, I used Baroque Motifs' large swirl/floral stamp around the edges in Ruby Red. Then cleaned the stamp.
  3. Cut a 4 15/16" x 4" piece of River Rock designer series paper (as part of the Ginger Blossom pack), and again use the floral stamp from Baroque Motifs on the edges in River Rock ink.
  4. Stamp a desired greeting in River Rock as well.
  5. Cut a 4 15/16" x 3 1/4" piece of Blush Blossom and use Distressor Tool (Cutter's Kit) to rough the edges.
  6. Cut a 4 15/16" x 2 1/4" piece of designer series paper (I use the small flowers piece).
  7. Use Boho Blossoms Punch with peach designer series paper and fit a Ruby Red brad in the center (punching it with a 1/16" Handheld Circle Punch).

Instructions: Assembling the Project

  1. For the inner covers (2) and back cover, quickly and easily use the Stampin' Up! Spiral Punch on one of the long sides and then adhere using SNAIL adhesive.
  2. For the front cover, first adhere the River Rock designer series paper (DSP) to the Ruby Red striped DSP. Use the Spiral punch all the way down the long side.
  3. Adhere the floral DSP and Blush Blossom cardstock together.
  4. Then adhere them to the others (unpunched).
  5. Then, using the Rectangle Handheld Punch (since the Spiral cannot go through this depth), punch holes where the spiral will be. Notice in the picture, you cannot really tell.
  6. Now, adhere all the pieces (which are now adhered together and punched) to the font cover using SNAIL adhesive.
  7. Lastly, tie a ribbon around the middle to "close" the journal (use SNAIL adhesive if desired to hold ribbon in place).

Instructions: Adhering the Flowers

  1. Lastly, using a Blush Blossom refill ink, ink the small flower from the Pretties Kit.
  2. For the large flower, use the stick from the Rub-on or other popsicle stick (or other source) and rub Groovy Guava ink in the middle of the flower petals. Then rub Ruby Red towards the middle up toward the edges of all the petals. Then use the Blush Blossom refill ink on the rest of the large flower.
  3. Allow all flowers to dry completely.
  4. Then assemble all the flowers with a clear brad through the middle (from the Pretties Kit).
  5. Adhere to the cover using Pop-Up dots.
  6. Adhere the punched flowers from DSP to the cover using Stampin' Dimensionals.

----- -------- AUTHOR: Heather Wright-Porto TITLE: FAMILY Chipboard Album - Home Again (Finished) DATE: 6/09/2008 11:10:00 PM ----- BODY:
This is a picture of the finished FAMILY Chipboard Album project we did over this past weekend, June 7th, as a Father's Day Project (however it can be used for many occasions).
Do you believe I didn't do any stamping? I think this is the first project I have done where I didn't stamp a thing. I wanted to demonstrate the Simply Scrappin' Kit and how it alone can be used (with some added accessories, like brads and ribbons) to create beautiful projects.

The following posts are shots of individual pages of this album with their recipes (tools and accessories used). What I forgot to mention on many of them is the use of Stampin' Dimensionals to give a raised look to some of the stickers (with brads) and the 1 1/8" and 1 1/16" inch Circle Handheld Punches.

Overall, here is a list of Stampin' Up! accessories used for this project. Again, see the following posts for detailed information of each "letter" (page) of the album.

The Kit includes all the materials needed to complete this project (ribbon, brads, rhinestone brads, hodgepodge hardware, and more). The kit allows you to have all the supplies needed for the project at a fraction of the price! For example, instead of purchasing a container of brads, only the number of brads needed for the project would be sent to you. All paper is precut, punched. The only thing you will need to do is trace all the letters and cut them, and then when it is finished to set the eyelets for the binding. The eyelets of course are included in the kit.

Thanks for visiting my site and for commenting!

I have begun using the Simply Scrappin' Kits more and more in regards to scrapbooking type of projects. Lots of my customers are traditional scrapbookers and they really like the SSK.

I also used Rose Cottage SSK for a Scrapbook in a Day workshop (posted on this blog) - http://heatherporto.blogspot.com/search/label/Scrapbooking and scroll down the page a little to see the 6x6 scrapbooking pages.

----- -------- AUTHOR: Heather Wright-Porto TITLE: Father's Day Kids Craft - Clothes Pin and 6x6 Page DATE: 6/01/2008 10:08:00 PM ----- BODY:

We are doing this project at an upcoming Kids Craft Program at a local library. Although this project looks elegant, it is relatively very easy for a child to do (2nd - 5th graders, with the assistance of a parent). The hardest part is the "punching" and I normally do that part for them. I love this stampset, Baroque Motifs and Chocolate Chip ink!

Paper

Instructions
  1. The paper for the wooden, magnetic clothes pin is 1 5/16 x 5 11/16. Cut two pieces, for the front and back of the clothes pin. Adhere with SNAIL adhesive (or glue of your choice).
  2. Cut 2x2 Chocolate Chip cardstock as a mat for the greeting. Very Vanilla piece 1.75 x 1.75 for actual greeting.
  3. Cut a piece of Chocolate Chip Taffeta ribbon and fold. Place behind greeting and punch through the greeting and ribbon (using 1/16" Circle Handheld Punch). Put Vintage Brad through.
  4. Adhere greeting to clothes pin.
  5. Cut a 6x6 piece of Chocolate Chip cardstock (plain, but textured may have even looked better).
  6. Cut a piece of 5.75 x 5.75 designer series paper (Brocade Background, light green patterned paper).
  7. Stamp the large swirl in Chocolate Chip ink, three times on the designer series paper.
  8. Wrap Chocolate Chip Taffeta ribbon around the designer serices paper. Adhere.
  9. Glue the designer series paper onto the 6x6 Chocolate Chip cardstock.
  10. Cut 1.75 x 1.75 piece of DSP (the same pattern used in step 6). Stamp large motif in Choc. Chip ink on that piece of paper. Mat to a 2x2 square of Choc. Chip cardstock.
  11. Punch in the center of the motif and place Vintage Brad.
  12. Adhere motif to finished 6x6 page (using Dimensionals or SNAIL adhesive).

This is my new PayPal Banner, created to match my Blog Banner for business payments made via PayPal. It is smaller than my Blog Banner, but PayPal only allows an image with the dimensions (in pixels) of 750 (width) and 90 (height).

If you have a PayPal account and use the "Buy Now" buttons on your blogs or newsletters, then you may want to have a PayPal banner to coordinate with your Blog Banner/Business Logo.

If you need a Blog Banner or PayPal Banner, I would highly recommend Michelle Laycock, http://www.blogstamper.com/, of Laycock Designs. She did my Blog Banner "Hand Stamped By Heather" and assisted me in modifying it to fit the PayPal banner size. She is wonderful, professional, and does beautiful work.

  1. Place Sky Blue cardstock, 4x4 or 3.75x3.75, on the inside of the card front with dimensionals. This way, the dimension of the die cut will still be shown but you won't see straight through to the greeting written on the inside. I left it alone so you could see the full effect of the die cut (so you see the grid paper through my sample above).
  2. Use Flower Fusion or Pretties Kit flowers with a Rhinestone Brad in the center of the die cut flower.

After the card front is stamped as you desired (I had used a "Masking" technique - see previous post), I then used the "Dry Embossing" technique using the Dots brass template and Daisy (retired) brass template. In the image above the Dots brass template is show.

Using the Daisy brass template I embossed a stem for the flower.

Using the Dots brass template, I embossed little circles around all the petals of the flower, and a larger circle in the center of the flower.

----- -------- AUTHOR: Heather Wright-Porto TITLE: Purse Tin Box Project (Ginger Blossom) DATE: 5/24/2008 11:39:00 PM ----- BODY:

What a fun project! Believe it or not, this project is relatively easy to make. The hardest part is cutting the paper around the closure (in the front) and the handles at the top. Other than that, it's just a matter of adhering the paper and adding embellishments.

The following posts (4 cards) are part of this project/workshop held at my home - Mother's Day Workshop. Enjoy!

Paper
Stampin' Up! Accessories
Other Accessories
Instructions
  1. Cut 2 pieces of Ginger Blossom designer series paper, 3" x 12". In this example, the dotted River Rock pieces are used and adhered to the bottom portion of the purse tin box.
  2. Cut 2 pieces of Ginger Blossom designer series paper, 1.25" x 12". In this example, the floral pieces are used and adhered to the top portion of the purse tin box.
  3. Cut 2 pieces of Ginger Blossom designer series paper, 3/4" x 12". In this example, the Ruby Red striped pieces are used and adhered between and over the other pieces.
  4. Double Stitched Groovy Guava ribbon is wrapped around the box, with a buckle from the Hodgepodge Hardware kit (Antique Brass).
  5. Rub-ons from Love & Happiness (green) are placed on the front of the box.
  6. The chipboard (Blossoms & Basics) is covered in Ginger Blossom designer series paper. The other in Fine Cosmo green glitter (Heat-n-Stick used to adhere the glitter). The round piece is pierced with the 1/16" Circle Handheld Punch and Red rhinestone brad used in the center.
  7. Cut 2 pieces of 6/16" of Ginger Blossom paper and adhere around the top rim of the box.
  8. For the very top of the box, cut a piece of 4 15/16" x 7" piece of paper. Use corner rounder on all 4 corners.
  9. Measure and mark how far the hinges are in and how mark where they are vertically as well. Where they intersect is where the paper is to be cut (where 2 holes will be left).
  10. Cut paper in half and adhere each piece around the hinges, to the top of the box.
  11. Cut the same size piece of paper for the inside lid (not cutting necessary). Use corner rounder on all 4 corners and adhere.
  12. The chipboard at the top of the box is simply covered in designer series paper (and then Very Vanilla adhered for a greeting).
  13. Add ribbon to handle.

Technique: Rock-n-Roll

Instructions
  1. Stamp large swirl in River Rock.
  2. For small flowers use Rock-n-Roll technique: Stamp image in base color, Blush Blossom, then roll the edges of the stamp in the darker ink, Groovy Guava. Then stamp on cardstock. Repeat as necessary. Try to keep towards the edges of the paper since the small flowers will be pierced (so the white cardstock shows through. Or you can add other brads/rhinestones).
  3. Dye the large flower: Rub edges in Groovy Guava, then use Blush Blossom refill to cover the rest of the flower. Allow to try for a short while. Then use napkin, cover, and push down to absorb excess ink.
  4. Punch Blush Blossom cardstock, lay flower, put clear rhinestone brad through all.
  5. Adhere Blush Blossom cardstock to Whisper White cardstock (card front).

Instructions
  1. Stamp images of beach scene in Basic Gray. Since we're using watercoloring, let this set for a minute or so before using blender pens. For immediate coloring, use Staz-On Black.
  2. Use watercolor pencils to color image. I used greens and browns for the grass, brown and gray on the chair, gray and blue for the birds, blue for the clouds. Kids can use regular crayons for coloring.
  3. Then I used a light brown for sand and blue for sky/water and used the blender pen. This may or may not be desired with children making the card. Again, regular crayons can be used instead or watercoloring.
  4. Use SNAIL adhesive glue to assemble the card layers.

  1. Stamp the deer/tree image in Versa Mark. Then stamp on Watercolor paper.
  2. Use the sponge dauber in a brown color pastel (of your choice) over the deer image. Then use another dauber for greens (a dark green over the trees in the image, lighter green for the grass). Use another dauber for blue (for the clouds).

Here is a project I created with a friend, fellow demonstrator of mine (who prefers not to be mentioned) some time ago. It uses one of my favorite sets, Roses In Winter, although it is retired now (still can't believe it). Any floral set would look GREAT though!
All of the "goodies" - the Card, post-it notes block, 2 pens, and Candle/Coaster all fit inside the can!

Technique: Two Step and Stamp-Off

This project, although it contains a lot of pieces, is relatively easy. Basically you are just two-step stamping on everything with the Roses In Winter stampset: Big roses (Pretty in Pink base, Rose Red 2nd layer (but with Stamp-off so it's faded), center is just Rose Red; Leaves, stamp off the base in Mellow Moss, then simply stamp Mellow Moss for outline/2nd layer.

Just placed my 1st month order this morning. Exciting. You have some beautiful ideas. I had our stamp club yesterday and found white paper CD holders, stamped them with rose red/regal rose using the pretty peony set. Filled with a large cookie wrapped in plastic wrap, addd a piece of scrapbook paper in the background, added some ribbon to the top and gave as a gift for the ladies for joining the club...simple and they loved it! ----- -------- AUTHOR: Heather Wright-Porto TITLE: Mother's Day Projects - KIDS Crafts DATE: 4/18/2008 12:51:00 PM ----- BODY:

We did this project during our last techniques class. It's based off the sample from Split Coast Stampers (by Donna Moore). I had seem some really great samples of Dahlia flowers, full flowers as well as these 1/2 flowers - they are all so pretty.

Stampin' Up! Supplies and Accessories

Tutorial from Split Coast Stampers

http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/resources/tutorials/dahlia_fold/

My Instructions

  1. Determine what Designer Series Paper you would like to use. I used the Afternoon Tea (from the Occasions Mini Catalog).
  2. Use the 1 3/8" Circle Punch. Punch 5 Circles (3 to be used for the main flower, and 1 for eac of the smaller flowers).
  3. Fold the circles in half one way, then again in half the other way (not folding the top so much so there is only a significant crease on the bottom half).
  4. In my example, I wanted the pattern with the Sky Blue and Chocolate Chip, small roses(almost looks like wallpaper), to be the "main" part of the Dahlia flower.
  5. Therefore, with a given circle, put the peach floral pattern facing up. Then fold up sides of the bottom portion of the circle only.
  6. Then flip over the circle. Now Sky Blue and Chocolate Chip (wallpaper-like) pattern is showing. Now, bend over the sides to meet the center of the flower - you will now see the mini folds you just did come to the front.
  7. Do this for all the circle, all the buds.
  8. I used a mini-glue dot to hold it together/closed.
  9. To finish the card, I used rub-ons (floral) from Love & Happiness rub-ons, in brown.
  10. I used the two-way glue pen to add glitter to the card and the flower buds.
  11. I also used rub-ons in white on the Chocolate Chip envelope.

NOTE: You could also use the Dahlia technique with green cardstock as a bud base for the flowers (as in the sample from Split Coast Stampers).

I was tagged by Laura (http://www.inkerbelsinklings.blogspot.com/).

Although I don't feel comfortable "tagging" other demonstrators or bloggers, I thought I would still share 7 random facts about myself just for fun. So, here we go.....

  1. I have lived in the same town all my life.
  2. I am blessed with a beautiful daughter, my pride and joy, Michaela. Family is extremely important to me.
  3. Of course I love stamping, but my other hobbies include volleyball, kickboxing, and othere sports to keep active.
  4. My favorite flower is a lily.
  5. I love dogs! We have 2 of our own but do a lot of dog sitting as well. One day I want to become a dog trainer. We also have a parakeet.
  6. I have a Master's Degree in Computer Information Systems (GPA: 4.0), and have had my own computer consulting business and have been working in the Database Management and Programming field for 13 years now.
  7. When others meet me and they ask what I do for a living, the two most popular guesses are a teacher or a nurse.
Hope this helps you get to know me a little better. I hope you continue visiting my blog as I will be posting new project samples monthly (and more if possible).

Enjoy,
Heather :)

Anyway, this is a card from the Idea Book and Catalog (Spring/Summer 2008, page 144). I saw it and just had to do it for this Valentine's Day (which I gave to my mother). I just modified the colors used, and added some personal touches like the swirl background and roughed edges (distressor tool).

  6. Using smaller swirl, stamp in River Rock on Very Vanilla.
  7. Stamp "Love" in River Rock.
  8. Stamp little flowers (from Priceless) in River Rock.
  9. Adhere Very Vanilla and Blush Blossom cardstock. Wrap River Rock double stitched ribbon around them.
  10. Add small ball, pearl, and small ball to hat pin and then put through ribbon. When ready, add another small ball, pearl, small ball and tear drop crysal to pin and close.
  11. Tie knot (White organdy ribbon used in my image) to top of hat pin.
  12. Adhere hear to pin/ribbon using glue dot (mini).

Heather :) ----- -------- AUTHOR: Heather Wright-Porto TITLE: Inside of Pop-up Elephant Card DATE: 2/16/2008 09:27:00 PM ----- BODY:

This is an extra Valentine's Day project we made but it could really be used for any occasion. I used the rub-on "Family" instead of "Love" or other Valentine's Day related greeting. This picture really doesn't due it justice but my "good" camera is getting repaired so this will have to do and can give you a general idea of what it looked like.

This card is simple but cute - very little stamping. However, unfortunately, I did use some of our retired products - such as the Daisy punch and pink scrunchy ribbon (from a previous mini catalog).

This is such a cute card but probably the simplest I've ever created. We made this card at my friend's workshop, fellow demonstrator, this past weekend (again, she prefers not to be mentioned). I love her designs and wanted to share them with you.

This card again is simple but cute, however you can modify and embellish it however you desire.
I may alter this card by adding some hearts in Pretty in Pink before embossing the hearts with the Cuttlebug.

This is one of my favorite cards that I've used for many ocassions again and again (just switching the greetings). A friend of mine, fellow demonstrator (who prefers not to be named), made this card at her workshop years ago using a different color theme. Again, I use this card all the time with different color and have not gotten "sick" of it yet.

I am posting it to show that for Valentine's Day you can make cards like this (and the SDC 12 card I posted previously) instead of or in addition to the traditional "heart/love" cards.
